Her birth name was Kellie Dawn Pickler, on the 28th of June 1986, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. Her birth parents were the mother of 16 years. Pickler's childhood was difficult as her father was addicted to drugs and alcohol, even though her mother had divorced from her in the age of just two. Morton came back to take care for several years, but Pickler admitted that it was not as smooth. "I remember my mom with me being in the same kitchen, when I told her that I'd rather die than to be together with you. I would like God could take me away.' She pulled out a knife and set it down upon the counter and told, 'Here, do it then.' This was in fourth grade. It's unfortunate that I did not act on it. It left lasting scars on my heart. Pickler at the time, 12-years-old, was handed to her parents after the hearing in court. Pickler was raised with her mother and grandmother throughout her entire life. Pickler cites them as being the most influential people to influence her in the course of her life. The year was January 2002 when her mother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. The family she was raised by was her grandfather. Pickler was awarded her high school diploma from North Stanly in New London, North Carolina.
